Wolfsburg on Friday signed former Arsenal
forward Nicklas Bendtner on a three-year contract until 2017 to
bolster their attack for the new Bundesliga season.
The Danish international Bendtner comes to the 2009 German champions
for free as his contract at Arsenal expired on June 30.
Bendtner, 26, was at Arsenal since 2005 and also played on loan at
Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus. He was also sought by Eintracht
Frankfurt.
"We want to do well in all three competitions (Bundesliga, German
cup, Europa League), and for that we need players who are used to
such challenges," Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said.
"Nicklas is the kind of striker we have been looking for. He will
strengthen our squad."
Bendtner is to add his experience to the attack which also features
the likes of veteran Ivica Olic and Bas Dost. Wolfsburg's first
Bundesliga game is the official season-opener on August 22 at
champions Bayern Munich.
